Border Belles was started in 1997 by Gillian Moynihan and Kirstie Wenham who met when they were both working as civil servants. Sharing an interest in plants quickly developed in to a business in a field attached to the home of Gillian and her husband Dominic.
In the early years while steadily increasing our stock and range of plants all work done on the nursery was undertaken at weekends while we continued to earn a crust during the week. Early 1998 saw the erection of the first polytunnel which was a great help in stepping up the level of production. We now have a further two tunnels and 2005 saw the development of a purpose built potting shed, enabling Gillian and Dominic to have full use of their garage once again.
Having built up a reasonable stock of plants we began selling to the public in earnest in 2000 through Farmers Markets and local events such as plant fairs. Confidence growing we exhibited at Scotland's national horticulture show, Gardening Scotland for the very first time in 2001 and every year since. Over the years since then we have become regular exhibitors at many of the large shows in England including, Harrogate and Malvern Spring Shows as well as the RHS show at Tatton Park in Cheshire. In addition to this we also open here at the nursery on Saturday's only from April through to September. Visitors are very welcome outwith these times but please do call beforehand to avoid disappointment.
Sadly early 2006 saw Kirstie leave the nursery to pursue other interests. The "we" weaving through the text of the website is me along with a great deal of help and support from my husband Dominic along with family and friends.
We hope you enjoy visiting our on-line shop and should you visit the nursery you can be sure of a very warm welcome.
