Vigorous perennials from southern Africa which make excellent pot plants and with flowers which are good for cutting. Thirsty plants when in growth but water sparingly in the winter.
A selection of late summer/autumn flowering varieties ideal for the middle or back of a herbaceous border. All are happy in full sun or partial shade but prefer moist, humus-rich soil.
Astrantias thrive in a woodland garden, on the bank of a stream or in a moist border in full sun or partial shade. They will tolerate drier conditions but take longer to establish good clumps.
